JULY 4th TOURNAMENT: SENIOR PLAYER "LINKS' KING AGAIN"

Sixty two year old senior player Craig Martin beat all the "kids" in the popular One Man Mulligan on July 4th.

"Maybe I should not have
used a mulligan"
In this format, players may use one mulligan per hole with the stipulation that if you decide to try to improve your previous shot with a "mulligan shot", the original ball is out of play and the mulligan ball becomes the ball in play, whether or not you improved your original shot.  In fact, I've seen some pars turn into bogeys or worse by a mulligan shot. Evidently Craig used not only skill, but wisdom as well in using his mulligans.

Craig finished his round with a 62 while a friend and playing competitor said, "that was like the Craig of the 90's" (when Craig Martin set the local course record with a 58). Craig still has game, and it is not coincidental that he is our reigning Senior Champion!

A patriotic guest at Roky & Linda Andresen's
home on #8 tee.
Three shots back, at 65, you had three players, long hitting players Rusty Wilson, Jorey Price and Jordan Williamson. One shot back at 66, and "out of the money"was Joby Gray, our defending Club Champion who said "could not buy a putt"... Joby, like Tiger Woods, needs to go back to what made him good and play the game, not "over-think the game".

Greg Dodson did not wear Red-White&Blue..
but displayed two flags in his cart.
In the "B" Flight, three players tied for 1st with a 68: Matt Salazar, Rachel Poole (who found a little of her old game) and Berek Dyson. Matt Salazar won the scorecard playoff which started on #3. At 69 we had Jeff Rule, Jeff Donaghey and Jack Coody,

The "C" Flight was won by David Poole who tied with Trey Scales with a 72. In a tie for 3rd, with a 73 we had David Dyson and Kaleb Keith. In 5th and just "out of the money", with 74's were Keith Hulen and Paul Gunkel.
Laughs abound in this tournament...

There were four 76's in the "D" Flight: Craig Phelps, Joe Williams, Greg Dodson and Rusty Ridling, with Greg Dodson winning the scorecard playoff. At 77 we had David Price, Shane Wilcox and Greg Newton.

as do patriotic shirts
The "E" Flight had two players with a 95, Terry Stone and Billy Bashaw, with Billy winning the playoff. In third place was Scott Garrison, who took a 12 (yes, no mistyping here) on hole #10 after he zig-zaged the green from left to right a few times. Had he taken a 9, he would have won his flight! At 99 was Charlie Kauk, and at 100 were Richard Harvey and Keith Blank.

Ditto!
The tournament drew about 80 players from Elk City and surrounding areas, including Woodward, Sayre, Clinton, Mangum and Sentinel, among other sister cities.

The weather could not have been any better this Saturday. For all pictures, please go to our facebook page and go to albums, or click the link on the right side of this post,

Note: Due to the fact that this is not a shotgun start and that flights are determined after scores are turned in, many of the players have gone home before all scores are in, thus, we have a scorecard playoff, instead of an actual playoff.  The playoff hole was drawn, in front of many of the
players, by the wife of one of the players who actually lost the scorecard playoff.
