2015 KECO/SFI TOURNAMENT RESULTS

No tournament in Elk City draws as much attention and interest prior to the tournament, and during the tournament as the KECO-SFI Scramble. Everything seems to meet everyone's expectations: the prize money, the quality of play and of the players, the atmosphere, the time of the year, the format, the dinner party (the whole thing feels like a two day party) before the tournament and the set up. Plus, there is always a charity involved.

Seventy two 4-Man teams play the event, with twenty of those having been placed in the Championship Flight in advance (this number varies from year to year, from 18 to as high as 22), and fifty two that were divided into three additional flights ("A", "B" and "C").

As the last three years, the tournament opened with a horse race. This year it hosted 15 players, and the golf could not have been any better, nor the ending, when friends Brett Nichols and Anthony Rodriguez, tied for first after tying #9 with a par and then #10 with exciting birdies (Click Here for FaceBook Post). Horse Race is followed by a dinner and charity donations.... and then, after a good night's rest... the players are divided into two shot gun starts on Saturday, 144 (36 teams) at 7:30 a.m. and 144 (36 teams) at 1:30 p.m., and the team competition is on.

This year, we hosted 20 Championship Flight teams (all playing in the afternoon) and 52 "A", "B" & "C" teams (36 in the morning and 16 in the afternoon).

As per predetermined rules, the 52 "A", "B" & "C" teams would be flighted after scores were in as follows: the top 12 making the "A" flight, the bottom 16 making the "C" flight and the rest making the "B" flight. As it turned out, the "A" flight was with teams with scores from 55-60, the "B" flight was with teams with scores 61-64 and the "C" flight was with teams with scores of 65-70. This procedure doesn't always guarantee that the flight breakdown will be as close as this was in score differential, but it guarantees that there is no room for personal interpretation as to where the flights should be broken, nor for disagreements as to where exactly the flights should be broken.
GAS played with Jet Specialty and went "2-3" on #8. Jet Specialty had a 2
and G.A.S. lost the hole with a 3!

Anyway, the golf course not have been any better in this windswept day, and for the first time in a few years, there was no need for playoffs in the Championship Flight, where Jason Meece, Hunter Sparks, Andrew Grenn and Dustin York took honors with a score of 52. They were followed with a 53 by Scott Bailey, Don Grunewald, Esteban Restrepo & Lee Shivers. In third place alone, with a 54, were Joel Padden, Dustin Gunkel, Alfred Thumper Galyean and Jeremy Gray. There were three 55's, just one hot behind the last team recognized with a prize: Aaron Lee, Ryan Grimm, Austin Hannah & Tyler Sullivan; Luke Kane, Zack Norrell, Tate Alfred & Junstin Jennings; and, Jason Meyer, Curtis Ronck, James Larson & Donny Enix.

Ties in the "A", "B" & "C" flights are determined by scorecard playoff for several reasons, one of them being that there are teams that finish 5-6 hours apart and it would be impractical to require a team's representation for a playoff, particularly not knowing where the leading score in each flight will be.

The "A" Flight featured two 55's and three 56's. After the tiebreaker, the team of G.A.S. won 1st place with Rt. 66 Sweetspot taking 2nd place. In the tiebreaker for 3rd, Nichols Family won third with Jacam Chemicals and Craig Martin coming out in fourth.

After a scorecard playoff between four teams at 61, the team of A.C.E. won the "B. In second place was the team of  of R&R Construction and in third place was Clark Callaway. In fourth was the team of Dr. Robert Keith, who had a great day playing with his three sons. There were five teams at 62.

There was also a tie for 1st in the "C" flight with five teams at 65. After the tie breaker, the results were as follows: 1st: Curtis Schneberger, 2nd Kelby Merz, 3rd Great Plains Tire; the other two teams at 65 were, Treadstone and S.W. Overhead Garage Doors.

In closing, this year, we missed our friend Shawn Wilson who is recovering from a terrible fireworks accident. GET WELL SHAWN!!!
