3-B PUMPING JR. TOURNAMENT A SUCCESS!!

Cooper, always smiling!
The second annual junior tournament, sponsored again by 3-B Pumping (Bart & Shannon Barnett) was a real success in more that one way. First, the participation, then the weather which all morning was below 90 (cool by Elk City standards, a little breeze, and even ended up with a little freshening rain), course set up (thank you Ed Hughes!), course conditions (ditto), parental participation (golfers were allowed to take a caddie, which was usually a parent), prizes and scores.

The field of about 50 golfers was divided in six flights, mainly according to age, which left two little ones in a very special and difficult position: Cale Zachary and Ragan Hulen, 4 and 5 years old respectively, competed against kids of up to 7 years old, and if you don't think 2 years make a difference, think again... So let's say that Ragan and Cale won first place in little kids, boys and girls.

Among the participants, we had several players from out of town, including several kids from Cordell, OK; one boy from Edmond, OK and one of my favorites who recently moved from Elk City to Oklahoma City, Cooper Cowan... we miss you my little friend!

Taking it easy lake?
The best score (everyone played nine holes, from different tee markers) was turned by "newsmaker" Tres Hill, who shot a nifty 35, solidifying a touring season that ended last week with a win in the South Central PGA Junior Tournament of Champions. Tres is only 11 years old and joins brothers Blake and Brock as the only three brothers who have made the "newsmakers of the year".

Dancing? or body language?
Before posting the results below, I want to thank several people, beginning with the enthusiastic players, many of whom come day in and day out to share their time with us, the club's board for allowing us to have the use of the course for one morning, Bart & Shannon Barnett for their generosity in their gifts to the kids, the parents for their participation and support, Mona, my wife, without whom I would be lost and not being able to do many of the things that we do at the course, and my grandson, Sergio "Checo" who enthusiastically "took up" the game just so I could caddie for him today. Sergio ended with a 71 in his first nine holes ever (we had played 2-4 holes a few times). Sergio does not play golf at home, nor owns any golf clubs, but since he was spending 3 weeks of his vacation with us, learned to hit the ball... almost, and enthusiastically participated with the rest of the kids. Thank you, I had a lot of fun!
