JOBY GRAY, ANN COWAN & CRAIG MARTIN WIN CLUB'S CHAMPIONSHIPS

Joby Saved par from the thick grass
in the hazard on #8 on his way to
second Club Championship
With an unusual north-east wind of over 15mph, Sunday's hole positions, course set-up, fast course conditions, new areas of high rough and last round pressure, the last round of the Club Championship, was anything but easy for all the participants. In fact, 78%  (33 of 43)  participants had a higher round on Sunday than on Saturday, including two out of the three overall champions.

Joby Gray, who won the Championship in 2011 shot an opening round of 69 which tied him for second with Jorey Price and Logan Gore, all of whom were behind Bryce Butcher who opened with an almost flawless 67 (one bogey). Aaron Kauk was at 70 and Jordan Williamson was at 72.
Bryce made solid pars on the first four holes but Joby caught him by making birdies on #3 and #4, while Logan, after opening with birdie-par, slipped back with bogeys on #3 and #4. Both Bryce and Joby bogeyed #5 Logan made par, then Bryce started going backwards and could never recover, he tripled #6, bogeyed 8 and 10. After a birdie on #11, he played the last seven holes in 5 over par and finished with an 81. Up ahead, Jordan Williamson and Aaron Kauk were playing steady, but not making the necessary birdies to get closer. Jordan finished with a 75 and Aaron with a flat 82. Mark Fairchild, who started at 77, had it going for a while, but finished with a 73. That left Joby and Logan to fight for the title.

The hole that may have decided the outcome may not have been #17,  which Logan bogeyed, but two holes earlier. Coming to #15, Joby led Logan by two. Logan had hit the best of the two tee shots to this short, but dangerous par 5 hole.

Joby, about 215 yards away, and Logan just inside 190. The hole was playing into the wind and also with a left to right wind. Joby chose to go for the narrow opening, but blocked his shot away from the water and his ball ended up 50 yards right of the green, in the trees (right of the cart path) and now had a very difficult shot. Not even a bogey was a sure thing from there.

Logan now had an opening, a big opening. At first, he selected a hybrid for his second shot from the lefty side of the fairway, then, he committed golfers' most common sin: change of mind, he changed to an iron which he pulled slightly and into the left bank and the ball found the watery grave on the left. Joby was able to save bogey, which tied Logan,
and even though Logan birdied #16, Joby is too experienced to give Logan another opening. Joby played #18 with a two shot lead that remained the same after the both parred the closing hole. Joby finished with  a 71 and Logan with a 73 for his second consecutive runner up finish in the club's championship. Jordan Williamson tied for 3rd with
a 147 while Bryce and Mark tied at 148 another shot back.

In the Women's division, another 2011 champion reclaimed the title. Ann Cowan had rounds of 74 and 73 to win the woman's division over runner up Jackie Oldham who had rounds of 85 & 87.

Betty Maine won the "A" Flight and Jeannete Scott won 1st Net in "A" Flight.
