2014 LOVES-LINN BENEFIT, BEST EVER!

Curt & Gina found a little time together
The 3rd Annual Loves-Linn Benefit Tournament for the Network of Children's Hospitals was the biggest ever with a total of 59 playing teams and 9 paid non playing teams which required two shotgun starts. NO SURPRISE HERE, not only considering the noble cause, but the drive of the two top people behind this event and of course, the companies that they work for: Billie McGowan from Loves, and Curt Hayes from Linn Energy.

Billie is the former store manager of the Loves store located at exit 41, here in Elk City, but who who now runs another store in Oklahoma City because of a requested relocation due to family needs. Billie, a non golfer, wanted to do more than place a jar for donations for Love's Country Store annual fundraiser across the nation to help Children's Hospitals, so, she approached Elk City Golf & Country Club to see if she could schedule a golf tournament.
A "teary" moment realizing what
"The Cause" really is

When she was given the particulars and learned about the initial cost, she did not waver and somehow, met Curt Hayes who offered his help and that of Linn Energy's and the first tournament was born in 2012 with about 20 teams... 2013 brought 42 teams, and now, all together, 68!

It is too early to tell how much money will be raised this year, but by the results, it will be a record for this event, perhaps surpassing $60,000 should be the number... and Elk City Golf & C.C. should be proud to be part of it (the event raised $24,000 the first year, and a little over $43,000 the second year).

The one thing to know is that this is the only true fundraiser of its kind in Elk City, as it is the only tournament that does not offer cash or prizes of high intrinsic value. While it offers many nice door prizes, the prizes to the winners are commemorative plaques. Very suited for such an event.

They say that "imitation is the best form of flattery". Billie and Curt, along with Gina, Curt's wife, without whom Curt could not possibly be so convincing nor have the time to help, should be happy that Loves will have another golf tournament in Hinton, OK at Sugar Creek G.C.later in September started by another store there! Nothing to it guys, all you'll need is a team of Loves/Linn (or other similar partnership) and a "go getter" Billie/Curt/Gina team to help you!

A short note about "THE CAUSE".
The network of hospitals called Children's Miracle Network Hospitals is a group of hospitals dedicated to children's health in all areas, including treating deceases, injuries and prenatal/postnatal care.... sometimes at no cost to the families involved. Many lives have been saved and many more touched by the works of these hospitals. In Oklahoma, the OU Medical Center is the only hospital with a "Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Unit" (treats the most severe cases of injury and many severe ailments of infants), and this is where all of this funds will go to. The picture here, shows the actual hand size of a girl who was born prematurely and weighted only 1.5 pounds at birth and went on to live! Now, that's a miracle!

A special thanks to all the golfers who believe in the cause and participated, the sponsors, the Elk City Golf & C.C., the companies who fed the golfers on the golf course (I've got to mention Wilson and Stallion who had some of the best meat around!) and to all of the volunteers!
