FATHERS' DAY TOURNAMENT

Way too go Austin!
"The Older I get the better I used to be"? No...
the older I get the better I am getting!
Happy Fathers' Day to all!! Over sixty teams of fathers (and a mother) of all ages , from the early 30's to the 80's, participated in the annual "Father-Son" tournament the Saturday before Fathers' Day.... it was a great day for golf, not to mention a perfect day for sharing a round with loved ones.

This year, we had two flights by separating those teams with kids 12 and under from the rest of the field and the move proved to be a popular one, as 13 teams ended up in the "young sons and daughters' flight". Maybe next year we get a few more!

Sean & Ryder, who have participated
the last 3 years, finished 2nd gross.
Damon teamed up with both oldest boys, one
team tied 1st and other was top 8!
The tournament is played in a 2-Man Scramble format, and even though it is fairly informal (players are given a couple of mulligans), some people take this round very seriously as they have contemporary teams with whom they have competed for a long time in the field, and since they want to have bragging rights for next year, the concentration and intensity is good, and the top scores are great, particularly considering that some teams only have one good player in the mix.

Eddie Davis and Danny Teel combined efforrs
in two top 8 finishes!

They seem pretty happy, uh?
One of the youngest teams was Dustin Smith and son Austin, and though they finished down the leaderboard, I mention this team because young Austin (6), who can't be more than 50 pounds soaking wet, made what I will consider the "shot of the tournament", at least in front of me: as I was taking team picture of another team, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a ball going in, and turned around and started taking pictures of him and dad in their excitement (only "action shots" I took yesterday). It turns out he holed a 30 footer (Hole 36) for par
earning him a $1 from dad and perhaps a spot in the "NewsMakers" poster... come on, any kid that manages to hole out a meaningful 30 footer in front of the golf pro, should at least be considered for a spot in our annual poster!
The Terry Nichols Family.... son Brett (white
shirt) and daughters did pretty good! 1st and...
1st!!!

Brad Gilbert's first Father-Son tournament
in 4 years! Of course he had an "orange"
gallery!
The oldest team made some news as well, Craig Martin (61) playing with his father in law Earl Jolly, an octogenarian, had a round of 63, ONLY ONE SHOT from the best round of the day, quite an accomplishment considering that Mr. Jolly hardly ever plays.

The tournament started promptly on time at 9:00 a.m. and they were done by 1:30 p.m., a pretty good pace for so many players! Way to go!

Gallery... it most be a "major" in Elk City!
No wonder why Austin has to make 30 foot
putts to stay in the
A special thanks to Scott Ellis and Billy Bashaw, members whose picture with their kids were the theme of the welcome card given to our participating golfers.
