ELK CITY JUNIORS TAKE INAUGURAL JUNIOR BEDLAM CUP

Not without a lot of help from local parents and sponsors, a suggestion by friend and fellow PGA Professional Kent Miller from Clinton, OK, became a reality and a successful event. Just about 7 weeks ago, I received a call from Kent Miller suggesting we have a Junior Bedlam Cup. Kent Miller had played in the winning team of the 2015 GPN Bank Bedlam Cup.

The Winning Team: Top Row: Drake Hughes, Travis Poole, Tres Hill,
Aden Schmidt, Conner DeWitt, John Harguess. Middle Row: Haylee Poole,
Kinsley Hall, Sierra Stout, Kelcee Millican, Baylar Barnett, Conner Carlucci,
Sam Firth. Front (sitting): Grant Graham, Nate Jarel, Colin Dyson,
Tate Trotter, Nathan Womack.
Kent and I, in different ways, try to promote junior golf as much as we can, and he knew he would have our support. A few days later, we set the date of August the 4th to play the inaugural event. He went his way to recruit juniors, and we did the same in Elk City. I started with all of those kids who play in local and outside tournaments and was able to recruit 18 kids, Kent recruited 16.

Each team had two representatives presenting and/or
receiving the 2016 Cup.
As in the original, "adult version" of the GPN Bedlam Cup, players were paired in teams of 2, where they played 6 holes Low Ball (Holes 1-6), 6 Holes Alternate Shots (Holes 7-12) and 6 Holes Scramble (Holes 13-18).

The format was match play, with each hole counting one point, where a side could win a maximum of 4 points per format (if a side won all six holes, the score would be 4-0 for the winning team).

On our side, our parents went "all out" and we not only had food and drinks galore, but even had team shirts, and the kids had a lot of fun.

This year, our kids came up on top, and it appeared that the younger the team, the better they did.

Can't wait for 2017 and have this on the regular calendar, perhaps having a couple of more cities participating.

Thank you all, parents, players and of course, Kent Miller for the idea.

See you in 2017!
