2016 KECO-SFI..... The Party

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the most anticipated tournament every year is the KECO-SFI Scramble Tournament. It shouldn't be, but it is. I say it shouldn't be, because I am still "old school", and the most anticipated tournament in my youth and early twenty's was the Club Championship. Scrambles were only beginning in the late 60's and early 70's.

In fact, it was a real scramble (it used to be called "Florida Best Ball"): players were put in four pots, A,B,C,D, with the best one fourth of the field being the "A" group, then the next fourth the "B" group, etc. Over time, people began trying (and doing) to change things around, after the teams were announced, a group would come to the pro in charge and say something like, "Let Lenny play with us instead of Alex, they are both 'B' players. Alex says he doesn't mind, and Lenny is our close friend". Then, things continue to change, and people began making their own teams, at one time, there was a restriction, and the "Oldsmobile Scramble" became really popular, but over time, with the handicap restrictions, it faded.

Now, most everywhere, everyone makes their own team, and you have really good teams, and some not so good, so you have to flight tournaments, and of course, there are a number of ways to flight, some are "pre-flighted", some are not (this is probably the best way now days since not everyone has a handicap and doing so, would present problems with accusations of sandbagging and so forth. Thus, flighting after it is all over is popular, and not so unfair if you have certain rules. The KECO-SFI is one of those tournaments that prides itself of doing everything in the open, and following the rules set forth before the tournament to the letter. This leaves human opinion out of the equation, and no one can say that there was favoritism one way or the other. In addition, the KECO-SFI tournament, preflights the Championship Flight only... you want a better payoff? Pay the extra fee, and you are competing against the big boys.... and you better play like a big boy!

That was the case last weekend. There were 18 teams in Championship flight, and 52 teams which were later divided into three additional flights, "A", "B" and "C".

The "Big Boys" played as expected, like big boys. With music on the course and all. The first place team shot a very nice 20 under par, 51! The team's name was "Team Dub" and was formed by, Taylor Williams, Bobby Todd, Vilhelm Bobstrand and Cody Burrows. Second place (52), was the team of Levi Milini, who brought Jarod Niles, Jeremy Callison and Eric Moore to complete the team. And third was the team of Taylor Artman, who won in 2013. The rest of his teammates were Mikel Martinson, Chris Brown and Sam Smith. The teams of Clinton Simon and Zach Poole, with 54's were just out of the money.

Other results were:

"A" Flight:
1st (54) - L&R Tires
2nd (55) - Heath Martin
3rd (56) - A.C.E.
Other 56 was the team of James Ainsworth, who lost in the scorecard playoff

"B" Flight:
1st (59) - G.A.S.
2nd (59) - Jerry Oldham
3rd (59) - R&R Powerline
Other 59's, were Robert Keith and Anadarko II, who lost in the scorecard playoff

"C" Flight:
1st (63) - Greg Dodson
2nd (63) - Keith's Butcher Shop
3rd (63) - Jason Redd
Other 63's who lost in the scorecard playoff were,

Later in the week, we will publish players and/or Team pictures.

Thank you!
