IMPROMPTU HORSE RACE

There is n question that Elk City golfers are a special group who likes to participate as much as watching. Yesterday we had an impromptu horse race (Teams of 2, Alternate Shots), and those who did not participate, watched and cheered, and those who did and got eliminated earlier, stayed to watch!

Nine teams participated, and the competition was great! After 10 holes, as we needed an extra hole for a playoff, Mark Fairchild and Ricky Nagle outlasted bothers Jason and Greg Minter.

Joby Gray painfully watches as
Bobby Wechsler fails to keep their
ball in "gimmie" range on #7
In third place were long hitters Kaleb Keith and Carter Muncrief. In fourth, Joby Gray and Bobby Wechsler, who somehow lost his concentration and ran a 15 foot putt after a great tee shoot by Joby, six feet past the hole, from where Joby missed.... the rest of the competing teams were good and unforgiving.

Tyler and Tori Windsor went out on #6 after they both found watery graves, first Tori off the tee, then Tyler on the team's third shot (after the penalty). They ended up conceding the hole and everyone else moved to #7.

Dustin Gunkel and dad Paul went out after #5, when dad could not survive a three way chip-off... and Bob Miller and myself went out on #4, also after we lost a chipoff. There were 4 birdies and two pars in that hole!

A gallery of about 20 grew to
over 30 as more people heard about
the race and as teams started getting
eliminated.
David Poole and Jason Kiener went out on #3, also on a chipoff loss, and Ann Cowan and grandson Ryder went out on a chipoff on #2. They had been "behind the 8 ball" on #1 after a double bogey. They parred #2, then they lost a chipoff against David Poole and Jason Kiener who started with to bogeys (because we only had nine teams, no one was eliminated on #1, so on #2, the score for #1 and #2 were added, and in this case, two teams ended up with a 10).

Elk City Golf & C.C. plans to do a few more of this the rest of the golf season!
