A QUICK NINE...

- If you ever go to Branson, Mo. to play golf, do not, I repeat, do not skip the Payne Stewart Golf Club managed by Troon Golf. It is one of the most scenic public-resort golf courses you will ever play. Every hole is a new beautiful scene, from the moment you see the first hole to the last hole, every hole is challenging, beautiful and, as I and my dear friend friend Gary Leloff from Gallup found out, unforgiving of a bad shot - and of some good ones too! (by the way, smiley Mona beat us both... without handicap, by staying in play!). Bring your best golf and/or r patience- and a camera! On your visit, say "hello" to fellow PGA member, Dan Davis.

- As we speak, Ann Cowan is playing the Southern Women's Amateur in Alabama. The field was flighted after the first two rounds and Ann was placed is leading the 1st flight... time for another trophy!

Bob Miller: "always play it down!"
-  "Pure Golf": I recently read a column by one of my favorite golf writers, Jaime Diaz, who was praising the Seniors Tour (Champions Tour) as "pure because these guys love the game", resonated with a little get together we have in Sundays: our Sunday Shuffle attracts several golfers of all skill levels who play "pure golf" for the love of the game: individual, play the ball as you find it and make new friends! I wish Jaime was here to play one Sunday with us! (Note: Due to the time change, Sunday Shuffle will be moved up to start at 11:30 a.m.)

- Everyone is wishing the prompt recovery of two of our well liked members, Terry Nichols & Brad Gilbert. Both men, along with their wives, Donetta and Vera are thankful for the support and help they have received. See you soon!

- PGA Tour now starts immediately after the President's Cup or the Ryder Cup. Like football, it will be played in two calendar years. I bet you didn't know that Jimmy Walker, Webb Simpson and Ryan Moore already had "2014" wins under their belt! This week, we have the last World Championship of the 2013 Calendar year, and the first one of the 2013-2014 season. Kind of confusing at first, but we'll get used to it.

-What do you expect from Rory McIlroy in 2014? Frankly, not much. Changing equipment to be second fiddler to Tiger Woods, was the best he could do for his bank account, but not for his golf game... and speaking of Tiger Woods....

- Brandel Chamblee from the Golf Channel, made a pretty pointed remark concerning Tiger and the Rules of Golf. Here is the thing, Brandel said what he had in mind and actually had "evidence" to back it up, however, because of "political correctness" it backfired on him. The truth is that Tiger has had a few instances in which he either stretches the rules, or claims ignorance or, plainly, does not know the rules. Now, no professional golfer that I can think of, has ever been involved in so many instances in which one asks, "what did he just do"? Money talks. Just remember what Rule 6 states: "The player is responsible for knowing the rules of golf and of the competition".... that is the least Tiger could do in playing a game that has made him rich.

- Welcome Colin Dyson and Conner DeWitt (freshmen) to our 2013-2014 Boys High School Team. They will join Carter Muncrief and Logan Gore....- Ditto for Sierra Stout and Kelcee Millican who will be joining senior Kelsi Wilson in the girls team. Looking forward to seeing all of you young kids often at the golf course!

- Soon, we will have the "Bedlam Game" on TV and many members will be on hand to watch it at the club.... After the game, we are all friends!
