FAIRCHILD & BYNUM SHOOT 59 TO WIN "WET" MEMORIAL OUTING

It doesn't matter how much irrigation water we put on the golf course, it will never give you the deep green colors that pure rain water gives you!

Because of Monday morning thunderstorms, our scheduled Memorial Tournament for 9:00 a.m., started one hour late, but by 10:00 a.m., the weather conditions could not have been any better: cool, partly sunny and no wind, except a nice 5 mph breeze that just helped keep away the bugs. Just in case the weatherman was wrong, a tournament hat originally called for three formats, was changed to only one in the event that we had to suspend play again and try to match holes where to score from, and the thirty eight 2-Man teams played a straight scramble.

After a fairly fast round ("sixsomes" finished in about 4 hours), Mark Fairchild and Cole Bynum combined for a 12 under 59 to edge Rod Little and Keegan Hall by one stroke. Three teams tied, two shots back at 62: Jeremy Gray-Russ Smith, Jacob Mayfield-Frank Mendez & Jordan Williamson-Jorey Price. After the scorecard playoff (starting on #10), the teams ended up in the listed order above 3rd, 4th and 5th.

In the "B" Flight, Aaron Kauk and former Elk City Golf Coach, Brian Hunt, finished with a 64, winning by a single stroke over seven teams who scored a 65, which, after a scorecard playoff which started on #10, ended up in the following order: Larry Hudgens-Allen Robinson, Rocky Andresen-Sean Cowan, Bob Griffith-Don Andrews; Ann Cowan-Michael Cowan; Craig Martin-Tom Gilliland; Berek Dyson-Jeremy Green, Bryce Butcher-Braden Butcher.

The "C" flight, because of a tie for first, required an on course sudden death playoff before breaking other ties. Four teams tied with a 66: Brad Harguess-Dusty Mitchell, Juan Lopez-Chase McAbee, Warren Mayfiled-Monty Kent and Jack Coody-U.V. Williams. After a sudden death that required four holes (10, 11, 18, 10), Brad & Dusty beat Juan and Chase when the later missed the green and could not convert a 20 footer for par. In 3rd and 4th respectively, came Warren-Monty and Jack-U.V.

The "D" flight was won outright by David Lamar-Joe Brady who managed a 75 and beat Scott Garrison-Jason Kiener who did not stay for the playoff and lost by a default for no-show. Next, with 78, were several teams where the tie was broken by a scorecard playoff, and the order of finish for 3rd and 4th was as follows: Terry Stone-Nick Garrett, Charlie Kauk-Joe Wynn.

The flights, to avoid discrepancies of where the field is broken by scores, were set as a set number of teams as follows: "A"> top six teams and ties, "B"> next 7 teams and ties, "D" bottom 6 teams and ties with the "C" flight housing the remaining teams. Playoffs were necessary for first place in each flight, and the remaining places were broken by scorecard starting forward on hole #10, as drawn by one of the players in the tournament.
