This year, only twenty three participated in the 2015 edition of the Elks Lodge Tournament, but the smaller than usual participation did not mean lack of quality of play. Two teams shot a 55 -16 under-, and they were 5 shots back of the winners who shot a 50 to win the "A" flight!
The winning team was composed by Joby Gray, Dustin Gunkel, Alfred "Thumper" Galyean and Dustin's dad, Paul Gunkel... the best putter on the team. You get a couple of good putters -4 in this team anyway- and someone who can hit greens, and you have a tough combination to beat.
Congratulations!
The two teams that shot 55 to earn a tie for second place were: Cowan Land (lost 2nd place in the fourth playoff hole and took third place) and Digger's Helpers. Cowan Land was formed by Ann Cowan, Sean Cowan, Ryder Cowan and Cooper Cowan. Digger's Helpers teammates were Craig Martin, Aaron Kauk, Rusty Wilson and Bret Matlock. With a 56, in fourth place was the Barber Dyson team formed by Ricky Nagle, Jordan Williamson, Jorey Price and Brad O'Hara. With a 57 was Speedi Mart formed by James Ainsworth, Chris Pearson, Rodney Cabaniss and Keith Orr.
The "B" flight sported five teams tied for firs at 59!
Scotts's Guests (Gary & Jeannette Scott, Mic & Lillie Kendall); Yard Dogs (Jason Minter, Greg Minter, Craig Phelps and Bart Reece); Rocky's Stones (Rocky Andresen, Blake Johnson, Ronnie Smith and Eddie Davis); Bell Insurance (Joe Bell, Brad Spitzer, Bobby Connell and Robert Lakey) and Kaleb's Riders (Kaleb Keith, Keith Hulen, Ramona Alvarez and yours truly, Alex Alvarez). And the name matched... WE RODE KALEB ALL DAY LONG! (I can see that it is far easier to hit a green from 75 closer on the tee shot and if you are hitting short irons to a par-5 for second shots!!!)
Scott's Guests were eliminated in the first playoff hole. On the second hole, Kaleb's Riders made birdie and won the flight. On the next hole, Yard Dogs were the only ones who managed par, so they came in second place; the fourth playoff hole produced a tie between Bell Insurance and Rocky's Stones. Four teams were at 60 and just a shot out of the playoff.
The "C" flight was won by Bob Miller's team (61): Bob Miller, Tim DeWitt, Terry Jordan and Mike Stout. There were three teams tied for second place at 63: KECO-Tori's Grooming (Blake Brewer, Tori Windsor, Amber Brewer and Kathy Bell); Terry's Furniture (Joyce Schones, Ricky Marr, Brandon Thomas and Mike Cowan) and Culverstone (Terry Stone, Kevin McElheney, Justin Brown, Nick Hall). After the playoff, Terry's Furniture came in second place and Culverstone took third place.
SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!
