EARLY 2014 UPDATES...

The Boy Scouts Tournament was moved from April 5 to April 12.

The club gave their green light to use the hallway behind the snack bar to display members feats and pictures. We have started with the high school teams. We started with pictures of the boys and girls high school teams for 2011, 2012 and 2013 (we will also display each season's highlights). Courtesy of Dustin Gunkel, we will now also display a picture of the 1998 and 1999 teams that won the State Championship of which he was a member. If anyone of you has any pictures, newspaper cutouts, anything that can help us build a little history to preserve for the future, please let us know. In the smaller hallway just outside the pro-shop, we will continue to display Club Championship winners, Bedlam Cup and Newsmakers posters.

The re-doing of the practice area has been approved by the club... CUDD will donate a good chunk of money to fund more than half the costs - THANK YOU CUDD!! For now, the only thing that I can tell you is that we will move the artificial surface to the back of the range and we will level the front where the existing mat is, more details later. We are still looking for additional help, if you would like to be included, please call me... !! (Thanks)

As you have noticed, the weather has not been conducive to many golf days... and at this time of the year, a day in the 60's brings a lot of people. This weekend we had over 170 rounds, mostly members, and some of whom hadn't shown their face in a while.

It's kind of strange, in January, you get a day in the high 50's or low 60's and we get 80-90 golfers! Some people even walk instead of riding a cart. Now, if you get a day in the 50's-60's in June, you'll be lucky to get 20 players! That goes to show you that bad weather is only in your mind! PLAY GOLF!!

We have a full tournament calendar season in 2014, and our two newest tournaments will be back: The Bedlam Cup hosted by Great Plains National Bank will be played September 13, and the Loves-Linn Children Miracle Network Tournament in August or September, date TBA later.

Anya has been playing in Australia in several small tournaments prior to the Australian Open coming the third week of February. She has finished 24, 22 and 41st, making the cut, but not high finishes. Next week she plays the New Zealand Open. I'll keep everyone posted.

Joby Gray and Keegan Hall have been playing together in several tournaments since last year representing The University of Central Oklahoma. This spring will be pretty interesting, Joby came for the holidays and as usual, he could not stay out of the course and is playing pretty good. We'll keep you posted as well.

I've lost track of the PGA Tour season which now starts in October of the previous year. Several new winners, some of which neither you or I had heard much about before, and the "Big" names are absent in the winner circle. So, how would you like for Patrick Reed to be in the Ryder Cup this next September? I would, he has already won 2 times in his career, and one this season... But, who is Patrick? The same guy who beat Jordan Spieth in a playoff for his first win last year!

And how about Woods and Mickelson? Mickelson was second in Abu Dhabi last week after he tripled a hole in "Mickelson Style" in the last round when he was ahead...(he is still my favorite active golfer, now along with Jordan Spieth, as much for their golf game as for what they do outside the golf course). Phil came back and started his 2014 season in Torrey Pines, and was 2 under par after two rounds, only to withdraw after due to a bad back... and Tiger, well, he was there, but the scoreboard never noticed, he was +7 after three rounds and did not make the "mini cut" for Sunday. One thing for sure, you'll hear a lot about them in the months to come.
