While we are "semi-closed" -open only on days when the temperature is above 40 degrees-, professional golf continues around the world...
-Adam Scott won the Australian PGA, the Australian Masters and with Jason Day, won the World Cup; and he now leads the Australian Open after an opening round of 62, 10 under par and a course record by 3 strokes! The question is, who is really #1 in the world? You have Scott and Henrik Stenson have been red hot the last few months while Tiger has played little and has not won.
- Rory McIlroy is still looking for his first win of 2013... hint, hint, look under your Titleist 913 driver!
- Don't feel bad when you have a bad round... Two well known pros score a round in the 80's lately: Bubba Watson shoots 81 and Natalie Gulbis had an 82. Of the two, only Gulbis' round was significant, she had started the last tournament of the year tied for the lead, and skidded to 43rd place. Bubba's 81 was not in a tournament, it was a round shot with friends and playing with only one club, a hybrid.

- It looks like both of our high school teams will be short at least one player; in the boys side, we will have freshmen Conner DeWitt and Colin Dyson joining Logan Gore and hard working Carter Muncrief, and don't see anyone else joining yet. In the girls side we have Kelcee Millican, Sierra Stout and Kinsie Hall will join Kelsi Wilson. The boys had a great run from 2012-2013 in the State Tournament, winning in 2010, then 3rd, 2nd & 3rd. The boys also won the regional tournament in 2012 and 2013. The girls made it to the State Tournament the last two years, where Kelsi Wilson had a second place earlier this year.
- So where are our 2013 golfer graduates? Only one among all boys and girls pursued golf in college... no surprise here, Joby Gray is now playing for the University of Central Oklahoma joining former Elk City teammate Keegan Hall. We'll soon have a little update on Brock Walker, Berek Dyson, Cameron Marcum and Joby Gray.
- My daughter Anya made it to the the final stage of the LPGA Q-School for the third year in a row. This year she is much more upbeat and confident with her game, and she should be. Due to an unscheduled tournament by Jessica Korda, whose caddy, Patrick Horstman was going to caddy for Anya, I will be the substitute. I am working hard to make Patrick's absence a non issue. There will be about 200 golfers playing for 20 full cards and 20 conditional cards for 2014. She missed a conditional card last year by two shots. Let's make it a full card by two shots this year!
